"The UK faces shortages of trained mental health staff, poor retention rates and low uptake of new staff being trained. We know that recruitment and retention rates of mental health staff in the South West compare poorly with other parts of the country. Little is known about the challenges faced by the mental health sector in the South West, and how this might be impacting on recruitment and retention of staff. This research intends to address this gap.

We would like to speak to those currently working in, or who have worked in, the mental health sector in the South West of England in the past 5 years. Participation is completely voluntary and would involve either an individual interview or participation in a focus group discussion. We will ask questions about people’s experiences working in the mental health sector, and the challenges they perceive are faced in recruiting to, and retaining staff in the mental health workforce. We will also ask about what support is available to those in the mental health workforce.
