Full Story

We’re pleased to share that Sonia Kumar MP is moving forward with the establishment of a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Allied Health Professionals (AHPs). This is a significant opportunity to raise the profile of AHPs—including Dramatherapists—within Parliament and to influence policy at a national level.

What is an APPG?

An APPG is an informal, cross-party group of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the House of Lords (Peers) who come together to focus on a particular issue. While not official parliamentary bodies, APPGs play a vital role in gathering evidence, raising awareness, and influencing legislation and government policy.

What’s happening now?

  • Sonia Kumar MP will chair the APPG, and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) will act as the secretariat.
  • Her office is currently working to secure at least 20 MPs and Peers to support the group, including a Vice Chair from a non-Labour party (ideally a Conservative).
  • The inaugural meeting is planned for early July.
  • Sonia is also applying to lead a parliamentary debate on AHPs on AHPs Day – 14th October.

How can you help?

We are calling on all professional bodies and members to suggest the names and political parties of any MPs or Peers who are supportive of AHPs and might be willing to join the APPG.

Please send your suggestions to:
